Collection: BMW 6 Series E63 E64

Sixteen years after the first generation, BMW released a successor to this grand coupé. Based on the Z9 concept car, the second generation, designated E63, returned in 2004, initially as a coupé (code E63) with the 645Ci.

The range was completed in 2005 with a convertible version (code E64) equipped with a retractable fabric roof and a new 3-liter 6-cylinder engine. Also, for the coupé only, the Motorsport version named M6 was introduced, using the V10 from the M5.

In 2006, the 4.4-liter V8 was replaced by a 4.8-liter V8, also used in the 5 Series, 7 Series, and X5 Series.

The M6 convertible was launched in 2007.

In September 2007, BMW carried out a slight exterior restyling and took the opportunity to install two new engines under the hood: a 272 hp 3.0 L gasoline engine that replaced the 258 hp 3.0 L, and a 286 hp 3.0 L diesel engine equipped with a staged supercharging system.

There is also a version modified by Alpina, called the B6, equipped with a 500 hp 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8. The successor, the B6 S, has 530 hp. Alpina also created a GT3 competition version on which Dino Lunardi and Alexandros Margaritis won the ADAC GT Masters in 2011.

Total production was 116,748 units, including 62,575 coupés and 54,173 convertibles.
