Collection: BMW X5 E70 E71

The BMW X5 (E70) is a sport utility vehicle produced by the German automobile manufacturer BMW. It is the second generation of the BMW X5 and therefore the successor to the BMW E53. The model was presented to the public in August 2006[1],[2] and was officially accessible for the first time at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2006[2]. In the United States, sales began in November 2006, while in Germany, they began in March 2007[2].

Production

Like its predecessor, the E70 is exclusively manufactured at BMW's US Manufacturing Company LLC plant in Greer, South Carolina (alongside the X6). The choice of this production site is partly due to the fact that the United States is also the main sales market for the X5, thus reducing the costs of covering fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate (natural hedge).

In autumn 2009, the special edition BMW X5 10 Jahre was released, limited to 500 vehicles[3]

Production ceased in August 2013 as production of the successor model, the F15, began.

The SCR catalytic converter for reducing NOx emissions has been installed as standard on diesel models delivered to the USA since late 2008[4].

Technology

The second-generation X5 is equipped with an advanced all-wheel drive system, called XDrive by BMW. However, its chassis is preferably designed for use on paved roads. The optional third row of seats is new, but it is only suitable to a limited extent for people over 1.70 meters tall. It comes standard with the iDrive system with a color screen measuring up to 8.8 inches and eight additional programmable station buttons.

There are also technical features that are also used in other BMW models:

  • Active Steering: changes the steering ratio based on speed and driving style
  • Adaptive Drive with roll stabilization and adaptive dampers
  • Head-up display: projects important information onto the windshield
  • Comfort Access: allows keyless entry and engine start
  • Daytime running lights via the "light rings" around the headlamps
  • Four-zone automatic climate control

The Park Distance System, which can be integrated with the image from the optional reversing camera, is new
